Ghana’s Martha Bissah won the women’s 800m Heat 3 in the ongoing Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.
She finished first in a time of 2:07.67 ahead of seven other athletes from Ethiopia, Russia, Japan, Bostwana, Ukraine, Comoros Islands and Honduras.
Bissah has thus qualified for the A final of the event on the 23rd of August.
She will start in Lane 5 and face athletes from Belgium, Japan, Italy, Ethiopia, Germany, Ireland and Russia.
Ghana’s other representative in the athletics event, Precious Attipoe, will take his turn on Friday 23rd of August in the men’s triple jump and he will go up against 16 other competitors from several countries.
So far, Ghana has not won any medals in the competition while hosts China are leading with 11 gold medals and 23 overall.
Russia, Italy, Hungary and the Great Britain follow in that order with 19, 9, 8, 8 medals respectively.
Meanwhile in beach volleyball, Ghana’s male and female teams will be in action on Friday as Esther Essumang and Doris Essel take on Michelle Sharon Valiente and Natalia Giron from Paraguay.
Philip Amissah and Nicholas Tetteh will play against Shobeirl Mohammadreza and Sahneh Keyvan of Iran.
