Retired Black Stars defender, Sam “Foyoo” Johnson has advised the Black Stars players called to camp for the Afcon double header against Uganda and Togo to forget about the incidents that happened in Brazil and concentrate on the upcoming qualifiers.
According to the former Fernabache defender it is in the best interest of the players and Ghana football to put behind us all the negative happenings that occurred in Brazil during the World Cup.
“The players should forget what happened in Brazil and they should concentrate in the upcoming Afcon qualifiers, what happened in Brazil is in the past and they must open a new chapter to recover from the Brazil debacle,” he told Accra based Radio Gold.
The performance of the Black Stars at the just ended World Cup was surrounded by a lot of controversies ranging from the delay in the payment of fees due the players and other systemic failures on the part of the handlers of the team.
As a result of this the Black Stars crush out of the tournament at the group stage.
The abysmal performance of the team at the mundial has lead to the setting up of a presidential commission to investigate Ghana’s poor showing before and during the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.
Sam Johnson capped 45 times for the Black Stars of Ghana from 1994-2002 and had his local football stint with Accra Hearts of Oak (1991-95).
