Christian Atsu suffered a hamstring strain on Thursday sparking fears he may miss the Afcon.
The player was given a rare start for the Toffees in the Europa League game which they lost 1-0 to Kuban Krasnodar.
Team boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed the 22 year old may have suffered the injury.
“The only real negative of the night was Christian Atsu straining his hamstring. We will assess him,” Martinez said after the game.
History shows that serious hamstring injuries could take not less than five to six weeks. Give or take a week for the player to get back to full fitness and Ghana may have to do without the player for the tournament.
The former FC Porto man’s assessment will determine whether he will play any part for the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off in January.
The player, who was in the last Ghana squads for Afcon 2013 and this year’s World Cup, has not been in his best form for the national team due to lack of games in England but his absence will still be a blow for the African giants.
Already, Ghana will slug it out with South Africa, Algeria and Senegal without the input of star man Kwadwo Asamoah has been ruled out for the tournament also through injury.
