Tunisian defender Alaedinne Yahia has been excused from the upcoming Afcon.
The experienced French-born centre-back has 22 international caps and was a member of the Tunisia squad that won the 2004 Afcon.
[contextly_sidebar id=”IaX2lFT9e5PRrr5gvdSi8q6Qi3NO0tal”] He informed head coach of the Carthage Eagles that he was not ready for the African competition in Equatorial Guinea yet.
Yahia, 33, only signed a new deal with French club Caen in October and prefers to concentrate with his new club especially after returning from a long knee injury layoff not too long ago.
“Yahia asked me not to invite him because he is not mentally and physically ready to play the Afcon. I respect his decision,” Belgian coach Georges Leekens revealed at a press conference on Monday.
Tunisia coach has announced he will be naming his provisional squad for the Afcon on either December 26 or 27. They are housed in Group B with Cape Verde, Zambia and DR Congo.
