Cameroonian midfielder Stephane Mbia will miss The Indomitable Lions’ first group match at the 2015 AFCON after receiving a red card during the qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire.

The Sevilla player was sent off in the match and the Cameroonians filed an appeal with the Confederation of African Football leading to a video review of the incident.

Sources close to CAF confirmed that organisation had upheld the decision taken by Morrocan referee Bouchaib El Ahrach.

Thus, Mbia is set to miss Cameroon’s first match of the 2015 AFCON against Mali on the 20th of January in Malabo.

The Cameroonians are yet to name their final squad for the AFCON but Mbia is very likely to feature in coach Volker Finke’s team.

Meanwhile, CAF has stated that Cote d’Ivoire could be punished after a pitch invasion at the end of the match with Cameroon.

Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon are in Group D with Mali and Guinea.
