Bafana Bafana’s recent displays under Shakes Mashaba have convinced Cameroon head coach, Volker Finke that the South Africans will be a surprise package at the 2015 CAF African Cup of Nations, despite being the lowest ranked nation in Group C.
The German-born gaffer hailed South Africa after their recent friendly international played last week at the Libreville Stadium in Gabon, where the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
“Yes, South Africa are in a tough group but they are doing well,” said Finke.
“While preparing for our match against them, I watched tapes of their last two games, the 2-1 win over Sudan and the 2-2 draw against Nigeria. I can tell you many teams are in for a surprise against South Africa.”
“They look like they can get into the second round, that is very possible,” added the German.
Bafana have their final preparation match against Mali on Wednesday, January 14, before heading to Equatorial Guinea where they will play their first fixture of the AFCON finals on Monday, January 19, against number one ranked Algeria.
