Ghana joins 2015 Standard Chartered Trophy tournament

Staff,clients and customers and even the media will be presented with a rare opportunity to play football on the hallowed turf of Anfield, home to Liverpool Football Club.

This will be made possible because the Standard Chartered trophy will make its cameo in Ghana.

The Standard Chartered Trophy-Road to Anfield 2015 is a five -a-side international tournament which will see various across the countries where the bank operates.

It is hinged on the Bank’s Liverpool FC sponsorship and is an opportunity for Standard Chartered to reinforce its partnership with Liverpool FC and generate direct benefits to the businesses and its stakeholders.

Gracing the launch was the Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Kweku Bedu Addo, who was genuinely excited at the benefits that the competition would afford the various stakeholders of the bank.

“As a brand which is passionate about what resonates with our customers and clients, Standard Chartered has leveraged on the sponsorship with Liverpool to make the dream of many football fans across our markets come true.

“This is the fourth year of the Standard Chartered Trophy and while it has been running in various Standard Chartered markets and has grown very popular, it is the first time Ghana has won the right to stage it and we are therefore very excited to host this fun filled interactive sporting event for our stakeholders,” he added.

There will be 32 teams from the Ghana edition of the tournament. These will include teams by staff of the bank, corporate bodies, customers/clients and the media.

“This is a great opportunity for us in Ghana to send a team to Anfield to play in the finals and experience what it is like playing at the home ground of Liverpool FC and win honours for Ghana,” he said.

The Standard Chartered Trophy –Road to Anfield tournament will take place at the Lizzy Sports Complex on February 28, 2015.

A regional tournament will also be held with the winning teams from Ghana, The Gambia and Nigeria competing for the ultimate on March 14.
