FIFA says no Ghana vs Nigeria friendly

World football regulator FIFA has not granted permission for the proposed international friendly match between Ghana and Nigeria in London later this month.

The decision was based on FIFA’s directive not to allow countries to play two friendly matches across continents in three days and Nigeria seems to have gone against the rule.

The Super Eagles had arranged a match against Bolivia on the 26th of March in Uyo, Nigeria and were planning on facing Ghana on the 29th but FIFA’s intervention means the match will not take place.

Earlier in February, there were indications that the Nigerian Football Federation had written to the Ghana Football Association to state their interest in playing against the Black Stars in London.

Even though the GFA did not confirm the proposal from the Nigeria, the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Cudjoe Fianoo told Citi Sports that two West African countries had written to the GFA offering to play the Black Stars in friendly matches on the two FIFA international days between the 23rd and the 31st of March.
