Black Stars coach Avram Grant was all smiles as he reflected on his team’s huge 7-1 win over Mauritius in the first round of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers played in Accra.
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and Lorient forward Jordan Ayew scored twice each while Christian Atsu, Jeffrey Schlupp and David Accam got the other goals on the day.
Grant, who was handling his first full international match in Ghana, said his players showed great ability on the day and got what they deserved.
” I think it was a good result and we played some good football in the first half. That was what we set out to do. The movement was good and the goals were equally good. The players did a good job.
Of course, we always seek improvement and we could have done better in some areas. We could have scored a lot more but overall, I am happy.
We just need to continue playing well and keep to the spirit of the AFCON.”
Ghana and Rwanda top Group H of the qualifiers with 3 points each but the Black Stars have a better goal difference than the Rwandans who beat Mozambique 1-0 in Maputo in the other match in the group.
