Britain’s Jessica Ennis-Hill completed a superb performance to win the heptathlon title at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

Olympic champion Ennis-Hill, 29, has competed sparingly since winning in London in 2012 because of injury and the birth of her first child.

But she steadily built a near-unassailable lead over the first six events and then stormed through to win her 800m heat in two minutes 10.13 seconds to leave Brianne Theisen-Eaton trailing 115 points down in silver and Laura Ikauniece-Admidina 38 points further back in bronze.

Fellow Briton Katarina Johnson-Thompson was second overnight but finished down the field after three fouls in the long jump.

More soon.
