Director of the Aston Villa Supporters Trust, Howard Hodgson, has told Citi Sports that they are hopeful of a good run under new manager Remi Garde after picking up a point at home at Manchester City on Sunday.
The match was the first for Garde and the draw, which leaves Villa still at the bottom of the table, has left Villa fans, including Hodgson, expectant of a spell that will take them up the table.
“The players worked as a team at Villa Park. They worked hard for each other and the result gives us hope that we will go forward together, take this challenge on together and we are going to win this fight and stay in the Premier League.
I was pleased with the result because we were facing Manchester City and we managed to get a point off them. That was what I hoped for at the start of the match.”
Hodgson, who has been supporting Aston Villa for close to 40 years, also said he was the pleased with Garde’s choice of team.
Aston Villa’s starting lineup vs Manchester City:
Aston Villa (4-1-4-1): Guzan ; Hutton , Richards , Clark , Amavi ; Sanchez ; Gil, Veretout , Gana , Sinclair ; Jordan Ayew
“I thought it was a very good selection from Garde. I was happy when I saw the players he had chosen for the match.”
Aston Villa will face Everton (at Goodison Park) on November 21 and Watford (at Villa Park) on November 28.
