Ghanaian para-athlete Alem Mumuni says the government must be willing to provide the right atmosphere to help athletes prepare for the upcoming Rio Olympic Games in August.
Mumuni has qualified for the event and will be taking part in the men’s cycling tournament. He is expected to compete in the road race, time trial, and the track race at the Games.
He told Citi Sports’ Benjamin Nketsia on Tuesday that the state had to help athletes if they would be expecting medals from them.
“It is an honour to get a place in the Olympic Games but then, athletes like me will need help from the state.
I hope that this time, government will have a second look at its disposition towards and athletes and give the support that an athlete like me I will need to fare well and represent Ghana at the Games.”
The 2016 Paralympics will run from September 7 to 18, 2016.
