Ghana’s Richard Commey has revealed that he is very prepared to face Denis Shafikov for the IBF Lightweight title eliminator in Russia.
Commey is getting another shot at the title after he lost the championship bout to Richard Easter in September in Pennsylvania via the judges cards.
After that defeat, the IBF declared that Commey and Shafikov should face off so that the winner goes against Easter in a mandatory title challenge.
Commey (24-1, 22 knockouts) may not be new to fighting outside Ghana but he still insists that he very ready for the Russian slugger Shafikov (37-2-1, 20 knockouts).
Commey told ESPN in an interview: “I’m ready. We’ve known about this fight for a long time so I’ve been training hard at home in preparation”.
“Of course, I won that fight (against Easter Jnr), but I’m following the declaration of the IBF and facing Shafikov for the right to challenge Easter for the belt again. That’s what I’m after, another shot at Easter.”
“I’ve seen Shafikov fight. He’s very aggressive and I’ll need to use my boxing skills and be smart to win.”
Shafikov got a place in this bout by defeating Jamel Herring this year.
