Black Stars head coach Avram Grant says he will not be fixated on his opponents, Mali, ahead of their meeting on Saturday at the Port Gentil Stadium in Group D of the 2017 AFCON tournament.
Grant believes that even though the Malians are formidable opponents, his players should not be overly worried about that but they should rather channel their energies into planning their own efforts towards winning the tie.
He was speaking at the team’s pre-match press conference at the Port Gentil Stadium.
“The competition has no easy games and we all see that. Mali is a good team. They are well-organised and are hard to beat. We drew 1-1 with them in an international friendly some time back in Paris but we need to think about ourselves.”
The coach went on to state that Andre Ayew was going to be assessed before the team’s training on Friday to decide his place in the team on Saturday.
According to the Israeli coach, the West Ham forward was feeling unwell on Thursday and he felt the same way on Friday. Ayew trained briefly on Thursday and he is expected to train on Friday.
Ghana will face Mail on Saturday at 4pm Ghana time (5pm Gabon time) in the second Group D match of the tournament.
