Fans who have watched the Black Stars play in the 2017 AFCON have been asking themselves where the team’s new dance came from.
The players usually have dance routines to go with the goals they score and this year is no different.
But there is a new dance and it involves the players hopping back and forth in unison with their hands in front of them as though they were gripping something.
While others have wondered if they were doing the “Whip and Nae Nae” dance, others have guessed that they were showing their own interpretation of a song they all know and love.
It turns out that the players have been grooving to the song “Confessions” by Ghanaian rapper Kofi Kinata with its very popular refrain “Ewurade begyi steer no” literally meaning “God please take the steering wheel”.
The song talks about the travails of a young man who seeks to get home safely after a night of having a bit too much to drink on a Friday night.
This was revealed by Christian Atsu at the team’s press conference at their hotel.
“I would have wanted Asamoah Gyan to answer this question. A lot of people have been saying different things about the dance but it is inspired by Kofi Kinata’s song.”
Ghanaians will hope for more dancing on the pitch but that will only possible if the Stars win the tournament after a 35-year wait.
