Ghana’s Daniel Amartey and Christian Atsu have been named in the 2017 AFCON team of the tournament.
The pair had received praise from Ghanaian fans for their performances in the competition and it seems CAF’s Technical Study Group was also very pleased with their showing in Gabon.
Amartey was solid in defence for Ghana throughout the tournament and featured in all of the Black Stars’ matches.
Atsu was named Man of the Match when Ghana beat Uganda 1-0 in the Group D opener and he was a point of concern for DR Congo coach Florent Ibenge ahead of their quarter final clash with Ghana.
The Newcastle winger went on to draw a penalty from Lomalisa Mutambala which was dispatched by Andre Ayew to give Ghana a 2-1 victory.
In addition to the pair, Cameroon’s Michael Ngadeu, Fabrice Ondoa, Christian Bassogog all made it into the team. DR Congo’s Junior Kabananga, who was the tournament’s top scorer with 3 goals, was also named in the team.
Mohammed Salah and Ahmed Hegazy of Egypt were also included in the tournament’s Best Team.
