UK-based Streetwise Promotions, in collaboration with Errol Hawk Sports Management have announced three top bouts for an event dubbed, Freedom Fight Night, which is scheduled for March 11, 2017 at the Bukom Sports Emporium.
The bouts will be a part of the Ghana @ 60 celebrations, and will be headlined by Ghanaian lightweight boxer Richard Commey, facing off against Hedi Slimani of Belgium.
The other two bouts will see Duke ‘The Baby Faced Terminator’ Micah, a former member of the Black Bombers who appeared in the London 2012 Olympic Games, taking on Jonathan Aguilar of Mexico, and Ghana’s Frederick Lawson go up against Sakima Mullings of Jamaica.
Speaking to Citi Sports after the announcement, Richard Commey reflected on a poor ending to the 2016 calendar year, which saw him lose his last two bouts including an IBF World lightweight title defeat to USA’s Robert Easter Jnr in Pennsylvania, and vowed to put the disappointment behind him.
“In 2016 I was really disappointed because I felt enough was not done by my promoters, but its past and gone now.”
“I wish I had won that title, because that is my aim and my dream. Unfortunately I went close but didn’t win, but that is part of boxing and you have to be ready to take whatever comes your way.”
“But this is 2017 and it is a new era for Richard Commey,” he added.
