Former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien’s move to the Indonesian Super League to join Persib Bandung surprised many who watched him in his prime following the announcement of the deal.
The 34 year old Ghanaian international has revealed that his decision was influenced by a myriad of factors that include the rich history and tradition of the club as well as an acceptance of the current project the club is embarking on.
Essien has been a free agent since leaving Greek side Panathanaikos and recently turned down a move Croatian top flight side FC Rijeka.
“I heard a lot of nice things about this club especially how great and powerful it is.
“I also heard that this club has some of the best fans around.
“I spoke with the owner of the club and he wants to take the club to the next level, “he said.
Essien is not the first big-name star to join the Indonesian league with 1990 Cameroonian World Cup icon Roger Milla also making a similar move.
