Elmina Sharks head coach, Kobina Amissah, has responded to claims of Hearts of Oak coach Frank Nuttal that his team engaged in time-wasting tactics during their Week 12 tie in the Ghana Premier League.
The match ended 1-1 but Nuttal was unhappy with players of Elmina Sharks because in his opinion, they wasted time by constantly falling on the turf.
Amissah says what his players did was not part of their strategy on the day.
“The players did what they did on their own will. We do not teach them to fall on the pitch. The players do it based on what is happening on the pitch.
There were times when I shouted at them to get up but I cannot force them to do that. But this is football. Sometimes, players will find themselves in situations and they will try and react.
I am rather unhappy at how these things slowed the game because we could have won.”
Sharks took the lead through Joseph Mensah but they failed to hold on and Hearts came back into the game with a goal from Winful Cobbinah.
Sharks will take on Inter Allies, Medeama Sporting Club and Dwarfs before the end of the first round of the Ghana Premier League.
