Former Black Stars captain, Abedi “Pele” Ayew, says the fans of the team should stay grounded despite seeing the team thrash Ethiopia 5-0 in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.
The match, which was played on Sunday, saw the Black Stars win in Kwesi Appiah’s first match in his second stint in charge of the team and it was an opportunity for the likes of Ebenezer Ofori, Raphael Dwamena, Lumor Agbenyenor and Thomas Agyepong to show off their talents.
Speaking at the 2017 Calcio Trade Ball in Accra on Tuesday, Abedi Pele said that even though the result was good, there would be tougher matches to play in the series.
“I congratulated the team on winning the match. I spoke to the members of the team when I saw them at the ball and I also said same to the members of the management committee.
For now, we do not have to jubilate so much because things go so fast in football. We have other matches to play in the qualifiers even though the countries we will face (Sierra Leone and Kenya) are not as strong as expected.
But we still face them and those matches will have to played nonetheless.”
Ghana will continue the AFCON 2019 qualifiers in 2018.
