Ghana’s Christian Atsu played 61 minutes and set up a goal for Newcastle United in their 4-0 win over Bradford on Wednesday in a pre-season match.
The match was the third for the Magpies as they got ready for the coming Premier League season (which will be live on Citi FM from August 11).
Atsu was named in the starting lineup but it took 50 minutes for him to leave his mark on the match.
His cross from the right wing was poked home by forward Dwight Gayle to put Newcastle into the lead.
On 61 minutes, Atsu was replaced by Siem De Jong as manager Rafa Benitez made changes to his team.
The Magpies went on to score three more times through Jacop Murphy and Alexksandr Mitrovic.
Newcastle have played against Scottish side Heart of Midlothian and Preston North End in their previous pre-season matches.
They will start their Premier League season against Tottenham on August 13 and face Huddersfield and West Ham on August 20 and 26 respectively.
Atsu was acquired permanently from Chelsea in June after spending last season on loan and he is expected to feature in Newcastle’s campaign in the English top flight.
