Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town

Frank De Boer’s Crystal Palace reign got off to a nightmare start as Huddersfield Town stormed to victory at Selhurst Park in their first ever Premier League match.

Palace defender Joel Ward turned the ball into his own net to hand the Terriers the lead midway through the first half and just minutes later record signing Steve Mounie doubled the visitors’ advantage.

Mounie capped a dream debut with another goal after the break to earn David Wagner’s newly-promoted team an impressive win.

Palace fans started the season with renewed optimism amid De Boer’s appointment as manager but they will be worried by their woeful performanc, which suggests another year of struggle.

Everton 1-0 Stoke City

Wayne Rooney scored on his second Premier League debut for Everton to earn the Toffees victory against Stoke City.

The 31-year-old, who returned to Goodison Park earlier this summer after 13 years at Manchester United, headed home Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s cross on the stroke of half-time.

Jordan Pickford made a brilliant stop late on from Xherdan Shaqiri to prevent a Stoke equaliser – and ensure a dream homecoming for Rooney.

Southampton 0-0 Swansea City

Mauricio Pellegrino had to settle for a point in his first match as Southampton manager as his side wasted a series of chancs.

The home side dominated throughout but were unable to make a breakthrough, with Manolo Gabbiadini and Maya Yoshida guilty of spurning good opportunities.

Swansea failed to muster a single shot on target and will be relieved to have escaped with a point against a Southampton side which has now failed to score at St Mary’s in 545 minutes.

West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

Tony Pulis celebrated signing an extended contract in the best possible fashion as West Brom began the new Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at The Hawthorns.

Pulis, who will now remain as Baggies boss until 2019 after putting pen to paper on a new deal on Friday, saw new signing Ahmed Hegazi enjoy a dream debut.

The central headed home Chris Brunt’s free-kick on 31 minutes and that was enough to see off Eddie Howe’s men.

Premier League Results:
Chelsea 2-3 Burnley
Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town
Everton 1-0 Stoke City
Southampton 0-0 Swansea City
West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth
