West Ham manager, Slaven Bilic, says that Ghana’s Andre Ayew’s goal scoring ability was needed to help them get the 2-0 win against Huddersfield on Monday at the London Stadium in the Premier League.
Bilic needed the win to cool mounting pressure on his job following the Hammers’ win-less start to the season.
They had failed to grab wins against Man United, Southampton and Newcastle United in their first three matches and Bilic stated that Ayew’s goal and assist helped him enjoy his birthday.
“At a point, we needed to take risks even though Javier Hernandez Chicharito was playing well. I noticed he was getting tired as he had gone to play for Mexico and so I had to change things.
That was the perfect moment for Andre Ayew to come into the game. We had to get fresh legs on the field and you know that Andre always scores and goals and he did that again for us.”
Before getting the goal, Ayew laid on a pass to Pedro Obiang for a shot which was deflected into the net for West Ham’s first goal.
Th strike was Ayew’s first of the season and he dedicated it to his brother, Jordan, who celebrated his birthday on Monday.
Andre expressed some brotherly love via his Twitter account after the match.
