Bastie Samir handed Bukom Banku his first loss in his professional boxing career via a 7th round knockout in their much-awaited cruiserweight clash at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday.
The bout was the main event of the “Make Or Break” bout organised by Box Office Promotions.
Samir and Banku went into the bout on the back of years of taunting and in the build up to the bout, they promised to secure knockdowns.
Banku started the stronger of the two boxers and landed a hard right to set the tone but Bastie responded with his own right hand cross which wobbled Banku.
However, Banku steadied himself and went on to win the first two rounds.
Bastie Samir responded and won the third and fourth rounds largely down to a strong right hook which sent Banku to the floor in the fourth.
The fifth round was largely spilt while the sixth round was without major activity.
The 7th, however, was turning point. With both boxers getting tired, Bastie went at Banku with a barrage of punches and opened up a cut above Banku’s right eye.
The referee allowed Banku to get treatment when it seemed that stopping the bout looked a better option.
When the bout continued, Bastie put an exclamation mark on the performance with a solid right hand hook that sent to the Banku to the floor and ended the bout.
Samir is now undefeated in 19 professional bouts while Bukom Banku’s record drops to 29-1
