Black Stars duo, Thomas Partey and Harrison Afful, enjoyed their Tuesday evenings for the respective teams in Europe and the United States.
Partey featured in Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League and fired home the Spanish side’s equaliser on the night in the 56th minute.
He was assisted by Antoine Griezmann and he duly struck the ball from outside to give his team a point from the match.
Afful followed Partey’s example and scored for Columbus Crew in the MLS Eastern Conference semi-finals. He found the net in the 92nd minute after dribbling past four defenders and coolly finishing off to give Crew a 4-1 win.
The goal was the first for Afful since October 16 and he said after the match that he was pleased with his contribution towards the result.
“I’ve been waiting for a long time and finally I got this. I’m just happy. I enjoyed the moment.”
While Afful and Columbus Crew have put themselves in a good position to make it to the Eastern conference finals of the MLS, Partey and Atletico Madrid are still winless in the group stage of this season’s UEFA Champions League.
