The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that captain Asamoah Gyan and winger Christian Atsu will not face Egypt in Sunday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium through thigh injuries.

The two players pulled out of training on Wednesday and were to be looked at by medical team. Gyan, in particular, needed an MRI scan to determine what had gone wrong.

The GFA said on Friday afternoon that the players had suffered injuries significant enough to rule them out of the match.

Gyan had suffered a thigh strain and Atsu had a tear of the thigh muscle.

Coach Kwesi Appiah may also be without the services of winger Patrick Twumasi who suffered an ankle contusion in the 5-1 victory over Glow Lamp Academy on Thursday.

Appiah says the match will serve as part of his rebuilding plans for the national team.
