Xabi Alonso will grace the Anfield turf once more when he plays for both Liverpool and Bayern Munich in next year’s legends game.
A number of star players of the past will be involved in the second installment of the legends game, with 90 per cent of proceeds donated to the LFC Foundation.
No doubt Alonso will once again enthrall the Reds supporters with his consummate style, dictating play from midfield, but only for a half.
The second 45 minutes will see the Spaniard, who helped Rafa Benitez’s side to the Champions League in 2005, take on the likes of Steven Gerrard, Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler.
Fowler will captain the hosts and will also line up alongside some familiar faces such as Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia and Dirk Kuyt.
Bayern will be fielding some stars of their own, with Luca Toni, Giovane Elber and Owen Hargreaves turning out for the German side.
The match is to take place on Saturday, March 24 next year and the remaining 10 per cent of money raised will go to Bayern’s own charitable causes.
Liverpool legend and club ambassador Fowler said: ‘We are delighted to be able to announce our second official legends charity match at Anfield and we are looking forward to welcoming our friends from Bayern Munich.
‘Our fans were so supportive last year and helped us to raise over £1m for the children and young people.
‘This year we hope to create another fantastic family event and with the help again of our fans to raise funds that we can use to make a positive difference to thousands of children and young people across Merseyside and beyond.’
