Egypt’s men’s football team has been named the continent’s best national team for 2017.
The Pharaohs enjoyed a phenomenal year, making it all the way to the final of the African Cup of Nations, losing narrowly to Cameroon.
Led by Player of The Year, Mohammed Salah, they also dominated their World Cup Qualifying group, sealing their place at this year’s tournament in Russia with a game to spare.
In what was expected to be a tough campaign, the Egyptians breezed through a group containing Ghana, Uganda and Congo, only suffering a minor blip against the Cranes.
It was double delight for the Pharaohs as their head coach Hector Cuper was adjudged the best Coach of the Year.
The CAF awards ceremony was held earlier tonight, January 4 in Accra.
