Aussie Open Day 5: Dimitrov, Edmund through to fourth round

World number one Raphael Nadal breezed into the last 16 of the competition with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 victory over 28th seed Damir  Dzumhur in just under 2 hours. He will meet Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman next round.

Grigor Dimitrov came through a tough match against 30th seed Andrey Rublev to progress to the Australian Open fourth round 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4 in high temperatures on Rod Laver Arena.

Elsewhere, Spanish 10th seed Pablo Carreno Busta progressed with a 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-5 7-5 win over Gilles Muller. Kyle Edmund fought back in punishing heat to beat Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili in five sets and reach the Australian Open fourth round with a 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 7-5 victory.

In the women’s draw, Ukrainian fourth seed Elina Svitolina outclassed 15-year-old compatriot Marta Kostyuk to reach the Australian Open fourth round.

Svitolina won 6-2 6-2 in 59 minutes against world number 521 Kostyuk.
