Ghana Premier League champions, Aduana Stars, got a slim 1-0 victory on Wednesday in Dormaa against ES Setif of Algeria in the first leg of the final round of qualifiers in the CAF Champions League.
Sam Adama scored 72nd minute to give Aduana the victory ahead of the second leg on March 18 in Algeria.
The home team needed to win by a heavy margin to make the second leg a more straightforward tie but they failed to get off the mark in the first half despite creating chances.
The second half followed the same pattern for a while Aduana upped the ante and got a penalty with 18 minutes left on the clock. They went for a second goal by introducing Yahaya Mohammed in the 81st minute but that did not work on the day.
Aduana Stars need a victory to make it to the group stages. At worst, they can lose by a 2-1 scoreline and still make it through to one of the four groups in the main competition.
