President of the Ghana Amateur Boxers Association George Lamptey is confident the pre-game preparations will push the Black Bombers to give a good account of themselves in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
A team of 8 boxers and two officials left Accra for Australia on Monday and are expected to spend three weeks in Australia in what will be their final training camp before the games.
George Lamptey says the decision to camp in Australia, which will host the games in April, will help his team adapt to the severe weather conditions in that country, and give the team a better shot at medals at the games.
“The pre games in Australia is very important in our preparations because it’ll help us acclimatize to the weather in the first place.
“Also camping in Australia and moving straight to the games village is an added advantage and the Minister has to be commended for this.
“The smooth preparations we have had this time around will even push the athletes to perform even better,” he said.
The team won one of Ghana’s two medals in the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow.
