Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel suffered a health scare after almost swallowing his tongue following a blow to the head that knocked him unconscious.
The Slovakia international was playing in a friendly against Thailand on Sunday and collapsed after taking a blow to the temple
The 33-year-old was incredibly saved by his team-mate Ondrej Duda, who realised the severity of the incident, reaching into his mouth to ensure he didn’t swallow his tongue.
The Fenerbahce star collapsed in the 27th minute and lay down before medics rushed onto the pitch.
Following treatment, Skrtel amazingly resumed the game and lasted until the 72nd minute.
Duda therefore potentially saved Skrtel’s life and enjoyed a fine game as well.
The Hertha Berlin star scored one and assisted another as Slovakia won 3-2 in Bangkok.
Fenerbahce will hope Skrtel is able to play for them next Monday at Kayserispor as they battle for the title in the Turkish Super Lig.
